What would you change - and why does it matter?
I recently did a writing exercise that asked one simple question:
What do I want to change in my life today, and why does it matter to me?
I had 8 minutes to jot down my thoughts.
It’s a simple exercise—nothing complicated—but it was helpful, so I thought I’d share.
I know so many of us right now are feeling off. Whether it’s frustrated or angry by the circumstances of the world, or feeling like we’re not enough or doing enough.
Or we’re just tired or sad or feeling especially lost—or a combination of all of it.
We’re ALL feeling some shade of wonky right now.
And sometimes just getting those words out is helpful. Sometimes just putting a few dreams to paper is helpful.
Sometimes just sitting with the questions of what we actually want and articulating why it matters to us is a step in a positive direction.
So my encouragement is to find 8 minutes in your day this week and write your own answer to that question.
Then consider sharing it with someone you trust.
There’s so much power in us sharing with one another. It helps us feel seen and known and not alone.
Here’s mine:
I want to be bold.
I want to go after my dreams with energy and be willing to walk into and through the fear of failure.
I want to stop comparing myself and feeling like I don’t measure up and then find reasons I can’t be successful.
I want to stop being frozen by choices and options.
I want to be clear on what I want and willing to try it.
I want to feel a bit fearless because I know I’m somehow held through it all. I want to feel and really know that.
This matters to me because I know if I could get there, I could get to a place where the strengths and knowledge I have - my personal superpowers - could be fully utilized in this world.
No longer hidden under excuses or fear that they aren't good enough, polished enough, useful enough.
I’d no longer stop myself short of realizing my full potential.
I’d live into it.
I’d live differently. In freedom, curiosity and boldness.
I’d feel brave and alive and connected to myself in ways I’ve not yet experienced.
So, what do you want to change in your life today—and why does it matter to you?
I can't wait to hear what you discover!
