Transformation is never one-size-fits-all

It never fails. Every winter, Lake Michigan transforms itself in a way that puts me in awe.

It goes from a sea of gorgeous, rolling waves in the summer to the kind of frozen formations that only Mother Nature could conjure in the peak of winter. And it looks different every. single. year.

There is not one of my approximately 18 West Michigan winters in which the shore has looked the same.

As I recently explored this winter's version, it occurred to me that this is how transformation looks for all of us.

It’s why I shy away from anyone peddling a personal or spiritual or career development process that says there are “6 sure-fire keys” or "4 simple steps” that work for ALL of us.

Because I know, in my gut, this is bullshit. (or bull-hockey, as my grandmother used to say.)

Steps to transformation are usually not simple. And they are certainly not “sure-fire.” There is no one-size-fits-all process for ANYTHING.

There are lots of experiences out there that have the ability to facilitate profound change.

The most important thing is to find the one, two, or a handful that works for YOU.

What I do think is true, though, is that there are lots of experiences out there that have the ability to facilitate profound change.

The most important thing is to find the one, two, or a handful that works for YOU.

For me, practicing various forms of contemplative prayer and meditation has changed the way I meet myself and the world each morning.

Incorporating these practices into my daily routine has helped me get in touch with myself and the Divine in deeper, more meaningful ways that have been completely unexpected and delightful.

Another experience that has produced a profound change in me is travel.

It’s why I do what I do, and why I love it so much.

Each week I get to work with a small group of amazing women seeking transformation.

They’re experiencing their own life transitions and questions and frustrations and dreams, and they’ve decided to make space to step back and actively invite the possibility of transformation into their life.

Honestly, it is one of the most beautiful things I have witnessed in my adult life.

  • Watching them blossom and grow and dream and envision.

  • Identifying the old stories they’ve told themselves for years—even decades—about what’s possible.

  • And then having the courage to challenge themselves to create new stories that open wide new possibilities and experiences.

Every week, they remind me that transformation is available to us all.

Yes, it can sometimes be scary and painful in that it requires us to look at parts of our lives we might have otherwise chosen to ignore for a long time.

But, it can also be exciting as we think about what adventures and experiences might lie ahead if we choose to seek them out.

Transformation will likely be both painful and exciting as you dip your toe into it.

But it is always beautiful.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on transformation —>

  • What experiences (big or small) have brought transformation to your life?

  • Do you have questions about the Brave Journey transformational travel program? Wondering how it works or what we do or what others are experiencing?
